Fort Wayne Indiana Commute Guide: Coliseum Boulevard and O'Day Road Work Through Spring 2027
Quick answer: Two projects matter most for Fort Wayne drivers this fall. INDOT began bridge work on Coliseum Boulevard (SR 930) at E. Washington Boulevard on October 19, expected to last about a week. O'Day Road is closed between Washington Center and Leesburg roads from October 1, 2026 to late spring 2027. The average Fort Wayne commute is 21.4 minutes.

Bridge work, a months-long road closure, bus changes, and winter plow routes. Here's what's actually changing on Fort Wayne roads, and where to check before you drive.

What's Changing on Fort Wayne Roads This Week?
Coliseum Boulevard (SR 930) near the E. Washington Boulevard interchange. Starting on or after October 19, crews are finishing bridge work over the railroad. The right lane of eastbound SR 930 and the ramp to westbound Washington Boulevard are closed. The left lane of westbound SR 930 closes after that.
INDOT expects about a week, weather permitting. If you're heading from eastbound SR 930 to westbound Washington Boulevard, choose another route. The wider SR 930 project, from I-69 to E. Washington, began March 16 and is expected to finish its 2026 work by the end of November.
| Road or service | What to check | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| SR 930 at E. Washington Blvd | Lane closures and ramp closure | From Oct. 19, about one week |
| SR 930, I-69 to E. Washington | 2026 resurfacing and bridge work | Done by end of November |
| O'Day Rd., Washington Center to Leesburg | Closed; detour via Kroemer Rd. | Oct. 1, 2026 to late spring 2027 |
| U.S. 30, Stahlhut to Flaugh | Shoulders closed; no turns onto O'Day | During O'Day closure |
| W. Main St., W. Jefferson to St. Francis | Reconstruction closure | Was due mid-October; confirm |
| Citilink | Southeast routes changed March 2 | More updates through 2026 |
Which Fort Wayne Roads Are Closed Through Spring 2027?
O'Day Road, between Washington Center Road and Leesburg Road in western Allen County. INDOT closed it October 1 for overpass construction on the U.S. 30 Corridor Improvements project. WPTA reports it reopens May 31, 2027, and INDOT says work finishes in late spring.
The official detour is Washington Center Road, Kroemer Road, and Leesburg Road. U.S. 30 has closed shoulders in both directions between Stahlhut and Flaugh roads. You can't turn from U.S. 30 onto O'Day Road.
INDOT also plans more SR 930 work in 2027, from Lake Avenue to E. Washington Boulevard, plus a bridge deck overlay at the E. Washington interchange.

What Other Fort Wayne Commute Changes Should Drivers Check?
West Main Street, between West Jefferson Boulevard and Saint Francis Drive, closed September 17 for reconstruction. The work was expected to wrap by mid-October, and I couldn't confirm it has. Check before you drive that stretch.
The city's 2026 neighborhood infrastructure plan includes $28.4 million for streets, roads, and bridges. Expect more short closures. The city and INDOT post new ones as they're scheduled.
The trade-off: Weather can move any date. Treat every closure window as a target, not a promise.
How Is Citilink Changing?
On March 2, Citilink combined Routes 7 and 7A into a single Route 7 (Anthony) and retired Route 5. Southeast coverage continues through Routes 3, 6, and 7. A new direct link now runs from Pontiac Street Market to Central Station.
Citilink says more updates are coming throughout 2026. Check fwcitilink.com/service-changes for current schedules, or call (260) 432-4546.
How Do Fort Wayne's Snow Routes Affect Winter Commutes?
The Street Department runs 18 snow routes. It plows arterials first, then collectors and Citilink routes. Residential streets get plowed after 3 or more inches. Main roads take 10 to 12 hours after snow stops, and residential streets about 48 hours.
NOAA's October 15 outlook favors a warmer-than-normal winter. It isn't a snowfall forecast. Park off-street so plows can reach the curb.
How Long Is the Average Fort Wayne Commute?
About 21.4 minutes, per Census estimates for 2019 to 2023. Construction can add to that, so build in a buffer.
Your Commute Checklist
• Check INDOT and the city's alerts before you leave.
• Know your detour for SR 930 and O'Day Road.
• Allow extra time near work zones.
• Check Citilink schedules if you ride.
• In winter, find your route's plow priority.
If you're comparing neighborhoods, test your real commute at rush hour before you decide.
