According to the Huntertown Historical Society, the town was platted in 1869 but wasn't incorporated until 1966. Some of the oldest reliable weather records in the country came from a Huntertown farm in the 1800s.
The original part of town, often called "Old Huntertown," centers on Lima Road between State Road 3 and Shoaf Road. The town's 2022 Town Center Vision Study lays out plans to reinvest in that historic core and connect it with the newer neighborhoods around it through sidewalks and trails. Town Hall is at 15617 Lima Road if you want to see the plans or attend a council meeting.
Most of Huntertown's recent growth has been residential, with new neighborhoods built to the east and west of the original town center. That gives you two different looks in one small town.

Getting from Huntertown into Fort Wayne is pretty simple.
Lima Road
State Road 3 (Lima Road) runs right through Huntertown and heads south into Fort Wayne, where it meets Interstate 69 at exit 311.
Interstate 69
Interstate 69 is a short drive away. The Union Chapel Road interchange (exit 317), which INDOT finished in 2013, was built to ease traffic at the Dupont Road interchange and improve travel across northern Fort Wayne and the communities around it. Dupont Road (exit 316) is the next one south.
Since the town's study points out that State Road 3 divides the newer neighborhoods from the town center, it's worth driving the route you'd actually take each day before you buy. We're happy to do that drive with you.
Trails
Part of the Poka Bache Connector, a planned 81 mile trail linking Pokagon State Park to Ouabache State Park, with about 1.4 miles of it inside Huntertown. A state trail grant funded an extension north toward the Allen and DeKalb county line, including a connection to the Gump Road trail.
Woods Road
A 27 acre community park with a dog park, an amphitheater, playgrounds, walking trails and a wetland designated by the Indiana DNR. The outer loop is about three quarters of a mile, and the figure eight route is about one mile. The park is run as a nonprofit and was built with help from local volunteers.
A short drive south
Fort Wayne's parks and the Rivergreenway are a quick drive south when you want more trail miles or a day downtown.
