Fort Wayne Holidays by Neighborhood: A 2026 Local Guide

Written by David Brough

Neon Santa and reindeer holiday lights on a downtown Fort Wayne building at dusk, with the Allen County Courthouse dome at left

Quick answer: Fort Wayne's holiday season kicks off with Christmas on Broadway on November 20, 2026, followed by Night of Lights downtown on November 25. Each area has its own flavor: downtown has the big displays, the Broadway corridor has the neighborhood tree lighting, and Jefferson Pointe in Aboite has a choreographed tree show. Confirm every date before you plan a visit.

Why it matters: Holidays show you how a place actually lives. Where the lights go up tells you where people gather.

What to watch: Downtown street closures on Night of Lights, limited nights at some displays, and dates that shift year to year.

The first move: Pick the traditions you'd actually go to, then tour the areas closest to them.

What Does Fort Wayne's Holiday Calendar Look Like for the Rest of 2026?

Fort Wayne's big traditions cluster between mid-November and New Year's, with summer's Fourth of July downtown. Here's the 2026 lineup, with the area each one sits closest to.

Dates come from organizer and city pages as of October 20, 2026. Lights schedules, ticketing, and venues can change, so confirm each one before you travel.

How Do You Plan a Holiday-Season Visit?

Build your tour around the traditions, not the other way around.

Start with the closures. For Night of Lights in 2025, downtown streets were blocked from 5:30 to 8 p.m., including Main Street from Ewing to Clinton, Harrison from Pearl Street to Washington Boulevard, and Calhoun from Washington to Superior, according to WANE. Confirm the 2026 map, and plan to park early.

Check the nights. The Fort Wayne Zoo's Wild Lights runs on select nights, is open November 25, and is closed Thanksgiving Day, the zoo says. Blue Jacket's Fantasy of Lights is a drive-through, so you'll want your car. Christmas on Broadway falls on the Friday before Thanksgiving, and it was free to attend in 2025.

Then use the evenings for scouting. Visit the neighborhood you'd actually live in at the hour you'd actually be home, then look at houses the next morning.

Downtown and The Landing

Downtown is where the season's big displays go up. HolidayFest's Night of Lights, on November 25, features the iconic lighting of Santa and His Reindeer and the Merry Christmas Wreath, according to Downtown Fort Wayne.

•  Housing styles: Condos and mixed housing, not one style. ZIP 46802 blends condos, historic homes, and investment properties, so price depends on the building.

•  General lifestyle: Restaurants, riverfront parks, and events within walking distance.

•  Nearby amenities: Parkview Field, which hosts Holiday Lights from November 12 through January 2 (closed December 25) with more than a million lights and a train ride, according to Visit Indiana. The Embassy Theatre's 42nd Festival of Trees runs November 25 to December 2, with Breakfast with Santa on November 27 and 28.

•  Commute and location: Central, with the rest of the city radiating out from here.

•  Parks and recreation: Promenade Park, which Visit Fort Wayne calls the jewel of the riverfront.

•  Restaurants and attractions: The Landing, on Columbia Street, has restaurants such as Nawa and Mercado. The Festival of Gingerbread runs November 27 to December 20.

•  Holidays here: July 4 matters too. The 2026 parade ran on South Calhoun Street from Creighton Avenue to Main Street, and the fireworks launched at 10 p.m. from the Harrison Square parking garage, instead of the usual top of the Indiana Michigan Power Center. City officials suggested the Grand Wayne Convention Center or the Broadway corridor for viewing.

•  Who may want to explore it: Buyers who want an urban setting with minimal yard work and big events close by.

•  On a short stop: Ask for the condo association's rules and fees before you tour, not after.

West Central

West Central is one of Fort Wayne's oldest neighborhoods, just west of downtown. It began in the canal era of the 1830s.

•  Housing styles: Victorian, Italianate, Craftsman, and Colonial Revival homes. The district holds the largest collection of homes by architects John F. Wing and Marshall Mahurin.

•  General lifestyle: An older neighborhood close to downtown's events. Parkview Field, the Allen County Public Library, and the riverfront are under ten minutes away on foot.

•  Nearby amenities: Electric Works and its Union Street Market food hall, and the Broadway Arts District.

•  Commute and location: Just west of downtown.

•  Parks and recreation: Swinney Park has tennis courts, a playground, and disc golf.

•  Restaurants and attractions: Davey's Bagels and The Abstract.

•  Holidays here: The appeal is proximity: Holiday Lights at Parkview Field sits within walking distance.

•  Who may want to explore it: People drawn to historic architecture and a short trip to downtown events.

•  On a short stop: Ask whether an address is in the local historic district, because exterior changes there go through city review.

The Broadway Corridor

If one neighborhood tradition defines Fort Wayne's holidays, it's Christmas on Broadway. The 22nd annual event is Friday, November 20, 2026. The parade starts at Broadway and Creighton at 5:40 p.m. and heads south, and the 40-foot tree lights at 6 p.m. with fireworks at Broadway Plaza in the “’07 neighborhood,” according to WPTA and WOWO.

•  Housing styles: The corridor touches nine neighborhoods: Broad River, Creighton-Home, Historic South Wayne, Historic Oakdale, Fairfield, Illsley Place, Williams-Woodland, West Rudisill, and the Michigan Avenue Neighborhood Association. Historic South Wayne's dominant styles are Craftsman, Colonial Revival, and American Foursquare. Illsley Drive has Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, and Craftsman homes, and Visit Fort Wayne says all but three Illsley Place homes were built before World War II. The National Park Service says Queen Anne and Colonial Revival dominate Williams-Woodland Park.

•  General lifestyle: Older neighborhoods with a tradition-heavy kickoff to the season. The event started as a neighborhood gathering of about 150 people to encourage interest in the Broadway Corridor, and more than 5,000 attended last year, per 21Alive.

•  Nearby amenities: Visit Fort Wayne describes the Broadway corridor as just south of downtown, with shops and dining along it.

•  Commute and location: Just south of downtown. The Oakdale district's nomination describes it as about three miles southwest of downtown.

•  Parks and recreation: Lutheran Park, in Historic South Wayne.

•  Restaurants and attractions: Bravas and 07 Pub.

•  Holidays here: Christmas on Broadway, plus Broadway as a good viewing spot for the July 4 fireworks, according to city officials.

•  Price check: ZIP 46807 shows a $199,933 median list price and 14 days to pending, but the “’07” label doesn't guarantee your address is in that ZIP.

•  Who may want to explore it: Buyers who like older neighborhoods, craftsman and revival styles, and a neighborhood-organized holiday tradition.

•  On a short stop: Walk the plaza and a few side streets before the event, when they're quiet. Then come back for the tree lighting.

Waynedale, Indian Village, and Quimby Village

Waynedale is a distinct south-side community, founded in 1921 and annexed into Fort Wayne in 1957. The city's Waynedale 2040 Plan covers 24 named neighborhoods in the area.

•  Housing styles: Homes.com describes Indian Village as cottages, Cape Cods, and ranch-style homes, and Visit Fort Wayne lists a walking tour of its mid-century modern houses. Styles vary by street elsewhere.

•  General lifestyle: A community with its own business corridor along Bluffton Road.

•  Nearby amenities: Crescendo Coffee & More and the Club Room are in Quimby Village.

•  Commute and location: ZIP 46809 shows a $236,567 median list price and 8 days to pending, the fastest pace we quote. The rebuilt Bluffton Road Bridge over the St. Marys River is finished, with a ribbon-cutting on June 17, 2026.

•  Parks and recreation: Waynedale Park has a shaded playground, a splash park, and pickleball courts.

•  Restaurants and attractions: The Clyde Theatre, which reopened May 8, 2018, after a $9 million renovation, anchors Quimby Village.

•  Holidays here: The Clyde hosts a free Veterans Day show with the Airmen of Note Big Band on November 11, 2026, and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's Wild & Swingin' Holiday Party on December 3.

•  Who may want to explore it: Buyers who want an established south-side community with its own shops and a live music venue.

•  On a short stop: Catch a show at the Clyde, then drive Bluffton Road both directions.

Aboite

Aboite is the newer-construction side of town, on the southwest edge. The city's Southwest Extended annexation took effect in 2006 and added 12.86 square miles and 22,587 residents.

•  Housing styles: Mostly newer subdivisions. Granite Ridge's The Haven, off Hadley Road, is one example.

•  General lifestyle: Expect to drive for most errands, with trails for recreation. The city lists more than 28 miles of Aboite Trails, and the 5.5-mile Towpath Trail links them to the Rivergreenway.

•  Nearby amenities: Jefferson Pointe, an outdoor shopping center with national retailers and restaurants.

•  Commute and location: Jefferson Boulevard connects downtown to I-69. Illinois Road is under construction through fall 2027, so allow extra time during the holiday shopping rush.

•  Parks and recreation: The Aboite Trails and the Towpath Trail.

•  Restaurants and attractions: Wooden Nickel Records, on West Jefferson Boulevard.

•  Holidays here: Jefferson Pointe's choreographed tree light show, set to holiday music, runs the second Saturday of Nov. (est.), with no confirmed dates yet, at 4130 W. Jefferson Blvd. Visit Fort Wayne calls Jefferson Pointe's tree and the Christmas on Broadway tree the tallest in Fort Wayne.

•  Price check: ZIP 46804 shows $304,900 and 10 days to pending, while farther southwest ZIP 46814 shows $506,600 and 35 days.

•  Who may want to explore it: Buyers who want newer construction, more room, and a shopping district with a holiday show close by.

•  On a short stop: Drive Illinois Road at the hour you'd shop, since lane closures are likely.

The Northeast Side

The northeast side is quieter on the holiday front. This guide hasn't verified a neighborhood holiday event for North Anthony, Forest Park Boulevard, or Kirkwood Park, so it doesn't claim one. Here's what you can count on.

•  Housing styles: North Anthony has 296 contributing buildings, mostly Craftsman bungalows, Foursquares, Colonial Revivals, and Tudors. Forest Park Boulevard's listing names Colonial Revival and Tudor Revival. Kirkwood Park has about 150 mid-sized Colonial Revival, Cape Cod, and Ranch homes.

•  General lifestyle: Boulevard streets and a small park-centered neighborhood. North Anthony's boulevard is 100 feet wide with London plane trees, and Forest Park Boulevard is 130 feet wide with stone gateposts.

•  Nearby amenities: The North Anthony shops, and Firefly Coffee House, which has served the area for more than 20 years.

•  Commute and location: North and northeast of downtown, with convenient access to downtown, Purdue Fort Wayne, State Boulevard, and Coliseum Boulevard. Kirkwood Park's north edge runs along Coliseum Boulevard, part of INDOT's 2026 and 2027 SR 930 work.

•  Parks and recreation: Lakeside Rose Garden, according to Visit Fort Wayne, and Kirkwood Park's own small park.

•  Restaurants and attractions: Firefly Coffee House. The Allen County War Memorial Coliseum sits on the edge of this part of town, per Visit Fort Wayne, and hosts touring holiday shows. Trans-Siberian Orchestra played there on December 3 last year.

•  Holidays here: Ask us about neighborhood lights and traditions by street. This guide can't verify them.

•  Price check: ZIP 46805 shows a $211,487 median list price and 11 days to pending. We don't quote a ZIP number for Forest Park Boulevard or Kirkwood Park.

•  Who may want to explore it: Buyers who like boulevard streets, mid-century layouts, and a short trip to downtown.

•  On a short stop: Drive the loop around Kirkwood Park, then Anthony and Forest Park boulevards.

How Do You Choose an Area by Holiday Style?

•  Want big displays you can walk to? Downtown and The Landing.

•  Want a neighborhood tradition? The Broadway corridor.

•  Want a quick walk to downtown events from a historic street? West Central.

•  Want live music and a holiday show close to home? Waynedale and Quimby Village.

•  Want a shopping-center holiday show and newer construction? Aboite.

•  Want boulevards and mid-century homes, and you'll travel for events? The northeast side.

What Should You Verify Before You Plan a Visit?

•  2026 dates and times for every event, because schedules change.

•  Downtown street closures for Night of Lights.

•  Zoo ticketing and nights for Wild Lights.

•  Current road work on Coliseum Boulevard and Illinois Road.

•  HOA rules, condo fees, and historic district rules for any address.

•  Which ZIP each address sits in, since ZIP figures are proxies for a neighborhood, not a measure of it.

Questions People Ask About Fort Wayne Holidays

When does the Fort Wayne holiday season start?

Christmas on Broadway on Friday, November 20, 2026, officially launches it, according to WOWO. HolidayFest's Night of Lights follows on Wednesday, November 25, the night before Thanksgiving. Several light displays open earlier, including Holiday Lights at Parkview Field on November 12. Confirm dates before you travel.

What is Christmas on Broadway?

It's a neighborhood celebration, free to attend in 2025, with a parade, a 40-foot tree, fireworks, and food, at Broadway Plaza in the “’07 neighborhood.” The parade starts at Broadway and Creighton at 5:40 p.m., and the tree lights at 6 p.m. It began as a gathering of about 150 neighbors and drew more than 5,000 people last year.

What is Night of Lights?

It's downtown's flagship holiday event, held the evening before Thanksgiving. This year it's November 25 from 5:45 to 8 p.m. It features the lighting of Santa and His Reindeer and the Merry Christmas Wreath. Downtown streets close during the event, so confirm the 2026 map and park early.

Where can I see the biggest light displays?

Holiday Lights at Parkview Field has more than a million lights, Wild Lights at the Fort Wayne Zoo has nearly a million, and Blue Jacket's Fantasy of Lights is a drive-through at Franke Park. Jefferson Pointe in Aboite has a choreographed tree light show. Some displays run on select nights, so check schedules.

How does Fort Wayne celebrate the Fourth of July?

The city hosts a downtown parade on South Calhoun Street and a fireworks show at 10 p.m. In 2026, for the 250th anniversary, the fireworks launched from the Harrison Square parking garage by Parkview Field, instead of the usual Indiana Michigan Power Center rooftop. Confirm next year's plan with the city.

How do I check schools or safety for a specific address?

Use the Fort Wayne Community Schools address lookup, then confirm with the district that serves the address, since some Fort Wayne addresses fall in other districts. Treat neighborhood crime scores with care. AreaVibes notes the FBI doesn't report crime at the neighborhood level, so those figures are estimates.

Can I get a list of homes in the areas that match my holiday traditions?

Yes. Tell Dave Brough's team which traditions you'd go to, your price range, your work location, and your move date, and ask for a customized list of homes in any of the areas above. They can also tell you which streets to see first.

The Bottom Line

You can learn a lot about Fort Wayne from how it celebrates. The big displays are downtown, the neighborhood tradition is on Broadway, and the shopping-center show is in Aboite. Pick the traditions you'd actually attend, verify the dates, and tour those areas first.
